Laurence Tolhurst wrote on January 29 [2013] on the Facebook page for Levinhurst, ..... "But I understand Peter Hook has a new book out wherein he speaks about a certain 1979 gig that Joy Division supported the Cure at? Well I remember that particular gig too and my memory is somewhat different from Pete's. See we arranged a show at the Marquee club in London for every Sunday for a month (called it a month of Sundays I think) and picked every band that opened for us. Because we, LIKED them and wanted to help them out. Not for any reason other than that.
from the book 'Ten Imaginary Years'
From 4 March inclusive, The Cure played a residency of four Sunday nights at The Marquee in Wardour Street. One of their support bands was Joy Division.
Robert: "They were all full and the stage was regularly invaded. On the first night they let in 900 people, even though the capacity was supposed to be 800."
Lol: "I remember lan Curtis had a very sad aura about him. I wasn't all that shocked to hear about his suicide later."
Robert: "I can't remember Joy Division at all. Backstage at The Marquee is about as big as a toilet and there were always about 20 people in there. We couldn't go out to see them play because we were too nervous anyway, so how the fuck Lol noticed lan Curtis was sad, I'll never know."
