This concert was cancelled on 1979-06-17, in order to accommodate a return appearance by The Police on that date, and postponed to 1979-07-01.
Lol: "We topped the bill; the promoters mixed bands without giving a fuck about compatability, all they wanted was to fill the place."
Robert: "I remember Malcolm Owen, The Ruts' singer, came to see us in our dressing room and was well pissed off that we'd managed to convince his fans we were good."
Still, some remained unconvinced. Mike Nicholls of Record Mirror wrote: "Halfway through '79 and The Cure can consider themselves prime contenders for The Most Frustrating Band Of The Year Award ... No hoover, fridge or lamp onstage, just a nice fat ventilator to keep ''em cool and casual. And further fine hardware in the form of attractive lights beaming blue and yellow on the band and white on the audience ... Did you know they were the Pink Floyd of the new wave? Well, Robert Smith carries off an admirable Syd Barrett drone and their general art school and smoke bombs approach has definite hippy appeal."
Lol blamed it on the promoters. This show was decisive, as it was the first time they were playing in London since the release of the album.
Lots of friends came to see them. Amongst those were Simon Gallup, Porl Thompson, Frank Bell...
And Robert Smith finally gave up playing on his cheap Top 20 guitar. He was playing on the Fender Jazzmaster by now.
Boys Don't Cry was certainly in the setlist that night but it doesn't appear on bootleg.

The Ruts supported the Cure for this concert. Which got many people (including journalists) wondering who had the idea for such a bill.Lol blamed it on the promoters. This show was decisive, as it was the first time they were playing in London since the release of the album.
