The next stop was Australia.
Simon: "We played in little clubs with tiny stages. If Robert moved, his guitar hit me on the shoulder. If I moved, my bass hit him. The rooms were so full that there were people vomiting at our feet.. . people fainting... it was so hot we'd leave the stage soaked even though we were only wearing tee-shirts. It was like coming out of the shower.
"We did tons of concerts like that because the promoters hadn't thought we'd sell very well whereas, in fact, we packed the clubs. It was great, they just kept adding gigs and, in the morning, we'd just go to the beach, swim, bury Lol in the sand, run about...
Robert: "To start with we were only supposed to do seven or eight dates but, in the end, we did 24. It was pretty horrific - hardly any days off, maybe two or three."
Parry: "It was brilliant. It's hard to out-pub or out-club the Australians but we broke house records everywhere. The Bondi Livesaver's about as big as the Marquee plus a bit of an open area and we had 2,200 in there. They were dying. We took Australia apart!"
