I saw the Cure on the tour in 1981 when Carnage Visors was the "support". This concert was definitely at the Rock Garden (not the townhall). I've never forgotten it (and the Rock Garden is hard to forget. Someone was pushed under a car outside a few weeks before or after...). I'm afraid that I have no idea what the set list was...

Yes I did go to that Cure concert, [...], I was at the local poly now a Uni Teeside Polytechnic. I can't understand how the guy who left a note to say it was at the Rock Garden can say that when I know for a fact it was at Middlesborough Town Hall. The Cure were getting more well known and they were considered above bands like The Fall and Psychedelic Furs who played at the Rock Garden. I know as I saw them play there. The Rock Garden was a bit of a dive, a dump to be honest. The Cure were better than that, in a better league altogether.

I just came across your print of the poster for the Middlesbrough gig in Middlesbrough in 1981 and I am just writing to say it was definitely at the Town Hall not the Rock Gardens.
It did feature the animated block figures film Carnage Visors before the show and the concert was one of the best Cure gigs and the first of many I attended over the following years.
My friends managed to stay back and go back stage to meet the band and said they were really nice lads who shared their fish finger sandwich suppers and drinks with the fans who were there.
The set list featured to my memory all the faith album, killing an Arab, boys don't cry, jumping somebody else's train, and the Forrest were also included that night to my memory. I did note the full list of songs on the back of my ticket after the show but alas that is long list.

All these years I've been telling people the gig was in the winter, because as I remember it the side doors of the venue had been left open and it was really cold down the front The band played in almost total darkness with just a light shining up into Robert's face from the floor of the stage. The chilly temperature and the darkness matched the music perfectly though and really added to the atmosphere!
