Robert had also been offered the headline spot at Elephant Fayre, an outdoor festival in St Germains, Cornwall and, after consulting The Banshees who'd played there the year before, he accepted because he was beginning to realise the convenience of having a working band on stand by. Both Phil and Andy stayed put and The Cure played the gig as a fourpiece.Phil: "I was happy to get out of the studio and, to be honest, I thought after 'Pornography' that they'd call on my services again. But they did the two singles without me so, when Lol asked, I said 'I'm your man'".
"We played two warm up dates - one in Bournemouth and one in Bath and we'd only been rehearsing for a week so they were horrible. I was playing the wrong basslines, Andy was playing the wrong drums but, strangely enough, it didn't seem to annoy Robert at all."
Robert: "I remember this tiny little club with the audience only a yard away. Our equipment wouldn't fit in the room and i sang louder than the PA ... it was so small, I didn't even need a mircophone."
from Shaun
... you can hear some conversations from the audience. I asked them to do Charlotte sometimes with the reply from Robert "we can't do charlotte sometimes"
