P.P. Version
P.P. Version / A Forest - edited
from the book 'Ten Imaginary Years'
On 25 April, they played the Royal Albert Hall, headlining the last night of Soundwaves, a week of benefits for Greenpeace.Record Mirror's Eleanor Levy wrote: "The Cure managed something only the last night of the proms is rumoured to do. They got the Albert Hall moving Queen Victoria must be turning in her grave." And Robert later told Sounds: "We did 'Faith' for the first time in years and I was crying through it... It's like re-reading a page of your diary, like Christmas Eve 1975 and all the hopes you had; it really cuts you up sometimes. When I hear it, I have to stop listening. I wish everything I did had such a strong effect on me."
Michael (Dempsey): "Robert rang me and it was quite a surprise. I don't know whether he meant it as a nice gesture or whether it just fitted in with the general scheme. It was nice anyway because I'd been to the Albert Hal l to see them and ... well, I don't really enjoy The Albert Hall at the best of times but what I preferred to watch from my vantage point - which I had to pay for - was the audience adulation. I don't know where they can develop from there, stuck with those people who copy their hairstyles, their every movement. I always thought they would carry on for years and years at the level I left them but the way the thing has grown!
