from the book 'Ten Imaginary Years'
Robert: "We soon started writing our own songs and, on 18 December 1976, we played our first gig at a place in Sussex called Worth Abbey. It was an accoustic set, we sat on the floor and played bongos. We weren't called Malice for this one actually because, in order to get the booking, we had to pretend we were a folk band! ..."from the book 'A Visual Documentary'
18 DECEMBER 1976In the guise of a folk band, Malice play their first ever gig at Worth Abbey. They develop a purely acoustic set for the occasion.

I (....) sang with the band at the infamous 1976 St Wilfrid's gig. In fact, I also played the Upjohns gig and the date at Worth Abbey with the boys, though the books usually limit my involvement to the more memorable fiasco.Lol Tolhurst about Dec. 20th & Dec. 18th gigs
41 years ago today we played our first gig as the band that would become the Cure. The reason I say that is because the one two days before was rather like " unplugged" no kit and acoustic guitars. The wilfrids gig had drums and amplified guitars. The Cure sound was started!
