THE EDGE
Location: 70 Gerrard St. E.
Heyday: 1977-1982
Known for: Living up to its name in terms of eclecticism: a dark, spacious abode facing Gerrard that housed tastemaker promoters Gary Topp and Gary Cormier, who booked punk/new wave acts like 999 and The Mods with the occasional jazzy Don Thompson/Ed Bickert or folkie Ralph McTell date.
Notable Headliners: The Police, XTC, Ultravox, and what would have been the first Joy Division performance if singer Ian Curtis hadn't offed himself a week before the gig
Closed: 1982

The Edge closed down in the summer of 1981, so the venue is wrong. To the best of my knowledge, the Cure didn't play Toronto in 1983 otherwise I would have gone. Seeing that they were in New York at the time, they may have done a surprise show in Toronto promoting Love Cats or something, but I cant confirm this.
... Capacity was maybe 150 people. The Cure played at the Concert Hall in 1981 which had a capacity of close to 2000, so wouldn't make sense they would play tiny venue 2 years later unless it was a surprise gig.
