'Saturday Live' was a BBC Radio 1 show presented by Richard Skinner and Andy Batten-Foster
from Dean
I’ve been digging through some old radio recordings and found a BBC Radio 1 session not listed in your TV and FM appearances. The show was called Saturday Live and was broadcast on 6th July 1985. As far as I can remember I think the Cure were live in the studio that day (rather than pre-recording the session as was the norm for Peel’s and other shows). They did 5 songs:
Inbetween Days, Close To Me, Kyoto Song, The Baby Screams, Sinking
At the end of ‘Sinking’ Smith says “That’s all. Let’s hope Boris Becker wins” a reference to the mens’ final at Wimbledon the following day.
The show was definitely Saturday Live not Saturday Night Live – it was broadcast in the afternoon (something like 2pm to 6pm with In Concert following for an hour if I remember correctly).
