An American Tour started on 6 July at Great Woods Centre For The Performing Arts at Mansfield and The Boston Globe wrote: "With the possible exception of Pink Floyd, no rock band has ever put across such compelling sadness." Middlesex News called 'A Forest' "New wave surf music" and The Maiden Evening News headlined their review "Punk Is Dead, Either That Or The Cure's Gone Pop", noting "As the show wore down towards the end of a long, ghostly night of lilting, swaying and rocking, teenie-bopper girls dressed in black and white with punky hair-do's risked their lives trying to get past a group of gruff security monsters to give Smith a kiss. Punk rockers trying to get onstage to kiss a group's lead singer? That's not punk. The Sex Pistols would have opened fire on a crowd like that with flame throwers."
